Costco campaign celebrates CMN Hospitals Miracles

Beginning May 1 and continuing through May 31, Costco is raising money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals all across the United States and Canada by selling miracle balloons at the register.

For the past 31 years (26 in Canada), Costco members and employees have been helping CMN Hospitals make miracles for sick and injured kids by raising $285.2 million.

Funds raised go to help kids like Miracle Kid Travis Selinka.

Travis was in 4th grade when he was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor on March 6, 2013 at the age of ten. He had episodes of feeling dizzy, vomiting and headaches but then he would quickly recover and feel better. After a couple months of testing, his parents knew something was wrong, so they brought him to Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego. They discovered he had a brain tumor and he was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma. Travis underwent neurosurgery the very next day. After ten days in the hospital and several weeks at home recovering from the surgery, their family moved temporarily to Houston, Texas for seven weeks to receive proton radiation therapy. Travis then endured six rounds of chemotherapy over the course of seven hospital stays. For each round, he was in the hospital for about five days.

It has been five years since Travis was diagnosed with life-threatening brain cancer. Thanks to the Rady Children’s Neuro-oncology team, he is now cancer free.

Today, Travis is living life to the fullest, back on the soccer field and enjoying going to school with his friends. He was also able to visit his local Costco during the CMN Hospitals campaign last year and dip chocolate strawberries and make pizzas in support of his community raising money for Rady Children’s.
